"Shark!" Much fear seems to fill the hearts of people today when they hear the word "Shark!" Perhaps second only to the dinosaurs have so many misconceptions and fears been planted in the minds of young children concerning these once beautifully-created, all very good, creatures of the deep we call SHARKS!
The Creation Adventures Museum Workshop will give your students many facts about sharks and the Biblical foundations and principles for their care and proper ;lace in modern ecology. Such things as the food chain, balance of nature (especially at sea) and classification will be part of the "Shark Facts" section of this hands-on workshop.
Using grid sheets, the student will work with real shark teeth screened from the Venice Beach, and Pease River Florida areas, sorting the varied types. Older students will work in research teams of two counting frequencies and checking percentages from the lab materials. As a research group, we will try to come to a conclusion of overall percentages of the varied types of teeth found from the materials provided. Actual specimens of modern jaws, teeth, vertebra and parts of rays, and even from boney fish will be included in the demonstrations for observation.
Each student will make his own Shark tooth necklace made out of genuine leather and an authentic shark tooth to take home as a remembrance of the occasion.
Peace River has yielded thousands of shark's teeth and you may want to consider adding another day of fossil hunting at the river. The collection of sharks teeth does not require a Florida collection permit (this means it's legal to hunt sharks teeth). Other fossils must be collected with possession of a Florida permit. Since this is the law, anything else collected during the fossil hunting expedition, apart from shark teeth, will become the property of Creation Adventures Museum, Inc. This extra day of fossil hunting at Peace River, should you decide to do it, is considered an additional workshop activity, therefore there is an additional charge for it.
